Visited Berlin with my dad again in June, mostly spent the 5 days meeting my aunt's family there. We lived in my cousin's summercottage, it was so lovely and we could eat as many cherries and strawberries and raspberries as we could. Berries grow bigger there than in Finland and they enjoy first spring flowers as we still shiver!

Wonderful pic I got from Daily mail!! The couple who own the house have to keep dutiful care of the flowers!

I love Katy Perrys songs and costumes and videos! But when I heard her actually singing live it was....horrible. I hope it was just a bad day for her. I do like her so! Her strawberry-basque is fab. "The way to man's heart is through stomach"

These should benintroduced again. Modern frilly garters just don't do it always and when you go 20's flapper" these would be much better! Also in loli-clothing these would come handy keeping over knee-socks in place.

When I had a course on museology one lecture focused on the history of pictureframes! It was as interesting as the paintings themselves. Golden frames reflected light in candlelight and in the sun. The story of this german painting was that the frame is as much part of it s the painting. It was a commission work for a humble german church in the 1840s but they gave it back because it was too "modern" for them. Some of the pre-raphaelite frames were interesting as well!

Official synopsis with my witty commentary.

Zyrgon is a cold, ice-bound planet halfway across the galaxy. That’s where X is a Family Organizer. She’s only eleven – but she’s in charge of her family of five.[Played by Lauren Hewett, staple in many kids shows of the 90s and the movie Strictly ballroom, won 2 AFIs and one from this and has then pursued career in fitness] FATHER is a lovable rogue, devoted to gambling [Bruce Myles] MOTHER’S a dizzily talented Wear Designer [Jan Friedl]. DOVIS is X’s older sister, about seventeen, and stunningly beautiful [ German teen starlet of the 80s and balletdancer, still acts too]. QWRK is eight, and a genius [also a staple on many many kids shows in the 90s and nowadays a director.]
[Taking a look on the planet one is left wondering how life evolved there, perhaps zyrgonians moved from somewhere else, and the uncanny (and common amongst scifi-races) similarity between homo sapiens!]

X is such a good organizer, she wins the coveted Pearlrock Logotype. She returns home – to disaster. FATHER has been discovered cheating in the government lottery – after winning it twenty-seven times in a row. The fearsome Law Enforcer-in-CHIEF comes to arrest him.[Bruce Spence,more about him later on] X promises to see justice is done. But X loves her father too much to let him go into detention. [Chief wrecks the home to show off a little and then gives 3 hours to find X's father].

Determined to keep the Family together, she decides on exile. X gets directions from LOX, a gorgeous but empty-headed space shuttle pilot she adores from afar [Paul Kelman]. They travel halfway across the galaxy – and turn left.[and stop by at Yorp's fuelstation to get some blue planet-currency]

Towards Earth – and Bellwood. [Melbourne, Kew and Surrey hills area, check it ourton google maps!] That’s where JENNY ROLAND lives [Kellie Smythe, sings these days, nice girl who wrote to me back].
X is meticulously organized. JENNY loves mess. X keeps a tight hold on her emotions. JENNY lets hers hang out. Especially since the recent turmoil in her family, which resulted in her dad leaving – and her mum being left with JENNY, her cynical brother COLIN {Che Broadbent], and her two bratty kid brothers. [Jenny wishes upon a star that her dad would come back and she would have a friendas she is mercilessly bullied by Michelle and Dallas at school.]

Rene Magritte is one of the best and well-known surrealists which work everyone who hasn't lived in a bubble has seen. His works are breathtaking and beautiful.

Salvador Dali is the best known surrealist of all times. He was uncnventional and profit-making artist. His diary is hilarious and strongly recommended reading!!!

I recommend your local library as a source.I found numerous books on surrealism, particularly "manifest of surrealism", Salvador dali's diary, whole works of Magritte in print and "the laughter of the surrealists" which recounts the adventures and picnic in 1920s of numerous members of the movement (including few women even!) their experiments with taking their portraits with photo-automats (novelty of time) as a type of ancestor to purikura of modern japanese youth. Also they dabbled with what the mind and automatic writing sometimes with disatrous outcomnes as some lost their minds and committed suicide. Surrealists often were anarchists or marxists.

Actually I like her silver spaceoutfit, The former Vogue-editor has Dune-inspired spacedress that fitted the theme of the party she attended. Her dress was nominated the worse outfit of 2008. Her daughter's purple dress is breathtaking. She looks like Scarlet O'Hara as a fairy.
Katie Cruise in her latest film.Her outfit is adorably flapperesque! Been a fan of 1920's flappers since high school and this outfit in gothic lolita-style would be nice to make!

Teadresses are coming back! Again, I'd like something like these in lolita-style and in retrofuturistic 60's style. The chartreuse color of the right dress is nice! I hate the left one's bag though even her dress is perfect. I actually have patterns to make these with a bateau-collar.

If you are like me with enormous boobs and rest of your body is 1-2 sizes smaller, you are having trouble finding clothes that flatter and don't look like sacks on you. This real-life woman who was born different and made a living in the freakshows as Serpentina the snakewoman had inspirational life. She never trusted banks so she bought diamonds and wore them on herself like clothing. This little story reminds me that even whenI don'thave the ideal body I can can always do as she did (though with not real diamonds). Also reminds me of a little story of a model-actress of the 60's Edie that accompanied Andy Warhol dressed in nothing but an expensive minkcoat. She replied to reporters "I had nothing else to wear"

My country-hime lolita work! I designed this OP that takes inspiration from rococo dream of Momoko from the Kamikaze girls. This golden yellow cotton with floral patterning, bergere-hat and paper parasol with icer cream-ring!
Pirate Jenny! Imade this pirate-lolita outfit for "Project runway"-type of desing game in lolita forum. My choiche of colors here are greyish black, red and white. The skirt reads Jolierouge which is the originalmeaning of Jolly roger because original pirateflags were bloodred. The blouse says bonny ann which is a nod to two english lady-pirates and means happy new year in french! The lace would be flanders lace which was popular booty in the pirate era. The hat is bicorne.

This classical lolita-outfit is called Periwinkle. It has a JSK (jumpskirt) made of broderie anglaise with pleated hem and pearly buttons and bow behind. The blouse is striped periwinkle-colored and juliet-sleeved with choker-like pearl-necklace that is fastened with marie-antoinette inspired bow in behind. The socks are floral-printed with broderie anglaise. The outfit is matched with a heartshaped bag. Hair is in tight ringlettes.

This is the style fo panties I adore. Forget those icky ugly strings and whatever modernities, the good old grannypants with frilly satiny twist is how I would seduce a man! I have some black satin and lolita bloomer-pattern....
This is the kind of coat and beret I want for next winter!!! I'm thinking of making the collar and cuffs myself. All I really need is whitish fur and black velvet for the bow. The bag is soooo yummy as well!!

and yes, I am that pale. No one knows why, my parents are quite tanned. I burn in the sun like a vampire. Nurses always have trouble finding strong veins and pulse on my hands., One coach said to me after cooper-test "You have no pulse!!" I told him I must be a living dead then. He laughed and finally managed to find a pulse from my neck, darn.

Now that I have a shoulder-lenght hair I'm thinking of styling it. What do you think? Would this 20's flapper-bob suit me? Ideas! I do like marcel-waves!

Berets are fun esp.in chilly weather. Have one in many solid colors to go with your ensembles. Silkribbon-embroidery, Bows, felt appliques and pearls all look adorable!And I know the following pic is upside down but it shows a nice ribbonembroidery made on a beret in silkribbon! Berets come in many forms, woven without loom-technique, from felt and fleeceand velvet and tweed, in 3-piece, 2-piece and 1-piece!

The defining picture for me when I first got my hands on a gothic lolita bible. This one did it for me and I was hooked. I simply love the bib on her dress!!! You can make a simplepattern for a fake-front opening bib with round collar and adorn it with pleatings, lace, nglaise broderie, bows and silver buttons like the one here. Attach to your blouse, cutsew or dress to wow everyone! Looks good in all lolita styles!

Alicebands became fashion after the Alice book was printed and it became a popular headornament for young girls of many ages. It keeps hair tidily back and is unostentatious decoration that fits demure classical lolis perfectly! Usually in velvet with a bow but again your own intrepretations should decide the style. It's cheap to look for ordinary headbands and re-make the with solid colored fabrics and frills.

Katyusha or headbow is one popular loli-item that has surpassed the once popular headdress! This meta-bow here has shiro-theme that looks striking as the fabric and trims are of same color. Trims like these really make orbrake your outfit. Decide whether a big katyusha or smaller alicebow suits your outfit the best.

Adorned nails finish up the makeup and make your nails look clean and healthy. I have the usual finnish soft nail due to central-heated homes and cold weather. I can't stand having long fingernails and have found simple nailpolish to be the best option for natural healthy look, for more fancy fake-effect i have scissored plastic cheap fakenails tomacth my natural nails and then adorned them with color and nail-ornaments! Nowadays you can have fakenails for toes as well for those summerlooks (I have very bluish nails by nature and usually need a lick of paint to make themlook healthier).

Short historique of ice cream vendors!

Didn't know the hemlines were so short in the 1940s....interesting. I remember women protesting the fashion boutiques for the scandalous fashion of longer hems of New line. They thought putting so much extra fabric was decadent so shortly after war. My grandma made herself a wintercoat from grandpa's armycoat. New fabrics were hard to get during shortage so many tablecloths, curtains and old clothes had to be remade to accommodate new fashions and to get the very basics like underpants for kids (from old underpants of their fathers!!).

They have revealed the fabulous statue of the late queenmother of GB, Elizabeth, the mother of the queen who died few years ago at over 100 years of age. My own grandpa would turn 100 this year if he were alive. His wife my grandma was a huge fan of UK's royal family and followed their lives keenly, I remeber the early 90s when Diana and Prince Charles were divorcing and my grandma would talk about it. Elizabeth, the queen consort of King George was beautiful and strong woman. Here she is in 1910's as a young girl, during WW1 she would enlist to help at hospital where wounded soldiers were. She looks like a fairytale princess in this picture!

Finnish painter Gallen-Kallela painted this picture Ad Astra (To the stars) in late 19th-early 20th c. He was from Pori and his works are here, notably the mausoleum of Juselius, where 12-year old Sigrid and her father rest perfectly mummified, Sigrid in her daisy-coffin (white coffin with daisy-edging around it.) Gallen-Kallela's paintings are in the mausoleum. Her father wasthe last of the family to live as all his wives and children died around him. He gave all his money to a foundation named after Sigrid Juselius that would help to fightdiseases and promote inventing medicines. Ad Astra is also taken as a sort of symbol in rapevictim's forum here. It symbols hope and strenght in a fragile body of a young woman.

Latest hit in anime-field by Tokyopop! The german (!) manga Gothic sports tells about a girl who wants to join her school's sports teams but is ousted by other teens who make fun of her gothic tastes. So she decides to form a soccerteam with other different teen who like her love palying sports. They have a gothi lolita-themes uniform made for the team. Haven'tread yet but the story sounds refreshing and fun. Beware jocks, the goths are coming!

To prove that wardrobe malfunction is sooooo not modern-invention we like to believe. Ladies of the past were just as likely to show off their bodies like in this picture. It's an regency era punch-cartoon that mocks the fashions of du jour, the "ancient greek"-influenced muslin gown that Marie-Antoinette helped to popularize.
These english ladies have noticed that the english weather and muslin don't go together too well. Ladies have runny noses and the sheer dresses clung on their bodies in embarrassing manner. Who has had this happen to their skirts that decides to clung in to your bum and legs in public?
